I would like you to excuse my over enthusiasm picking the suitable title for this blog post. It has been a while since I last posted here and I have achieved something I long have been wanting to achieve, and that is to finish a game. Continue reading
Seeing that I don’t have a decent connection to stream games, I thought of documenting my adventures in the majestic countryside of Farming Simulator 2013 in some other form, maybe I should document them better through youtube rather than twitch, no matter here are my impressions so far in text. Not long ago, my good friend Tariq Aldakhil of Z-Pad fame out of the blue gifted me a copy of Farming Simulator 2013 on steam with the message of wanting to see me get all the achievements in the game. Seeing that he went through all the trouble of doing so, I’m planning to dedicate the month of March (starting this coming friday) to do so. Continue reading
I love horror games, but I’m definitely picky about the ones I like and the ones I consider “scary”. For a while, I tried watching horror movies and watching something as passive as a movie doesn’t seem to have the same effect with me. Horror to me doesn’t need to be “realistic” or involve grotesque monsters, a location is enough to pass a message through. Corpse Party, while is a simplistic adventure game with roots coming out of RPG Maker style programs, has probably been among the most terrifying experiences I’ve had in a game for quite a while now. It’s the start of the year, the cool folks at AMD once again give me a laptop to try out for a week. This one might a little different than the other two they gave me to play with, while the previous are for everyday use, this particular laptop is made for what I tested the previous with – gaming. Here’s my look at the MSI GX60 Continue reading
This is it, my top 3 games of 2012. I do have to apologize that I couldn’t post this sooner, but life got in the way. I had a hard time picking a third game of the year, but now I’m ready to post this. This list should be a little more obvious than the rest of the posts, I will list only the three 2012-released games that I had the most fun playing. This list is in no order.
The Walking Dead (360, PC, PS3):
If there was any game that’s needs a very obvious mention in this list, it would be TellTale’s the Walking Dead. I’ve been calling it game of the year ever since I played the second episode, everyone thought I was nuts, but it ended up getting that title everywhere, and for good reasons too. I think what helped the experience was the fact that I played while its episodic lifecycle was still running, discussing the episodes with other people while waiting for the next one to get released was part of the fun. To me, The Walking Dead wasn’t only a good game, it really spoilt TV shows and movies as whole for me, right now, I wish they were as interactive and incremental as this game is. It is quite a shocker that a point and click adventure would reach this level of acclaim in this day and age, and for someone who loves them, I’m very happy.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown (360, PC, PS3):
To some people (mostly my friends) there’s a game in their life that sadistically punishes them for each and every mistake, that game would be Dark Souls. I had promised many of my friends that I will play it once it comes on PC, though I’m faced with the issue of having a game that fills that exact same niche for me, that game is XCOM. I never played any of the old XCOM games before, though they have been on my steam list for so long. Coming into XCOM, I had no idea what I was getting myself into, I was itching for a strategy RPG and this offered that by spades. Obviously this experience wasn’t complete without the roguelike-like ironman mode, that imposed permadeaths, the game (if played on classic) can be a brutal struggle where any slight mistake results in total mayhem. I honestly wish I had this game in a more portable form, it would definitely be something I’d play everywhere I go.
Don’t think many included this in their game of the year lists, but then a lot of people generally overlooked it, thinking it’s a port of the PS3 Wipeout HD. Wipeout always been one of those series I really enjoy but barely play, except when they released 2048 on the Vita, I probably spent over a hundred hours, beating friend scores and unlocking more ships. Even after I’ve beaten the game, I still play it today, looking at the community page and see who beaten my scores in random races every now and then. It is a shame that Studio Liverpool had to close down, where ever you guys, thank you for making among my most favorite games this year.
That pretty much encompasses 2012 for me, 2013 already seems promising with many great things coming our way from games and hardware. Here’s hoping for a great 2013.
I know 2012 has past, but I have been too busy to finish these articles and I might as well finish up my list of 2012 games and get this over with so I can talk about more current topics.
Like many others, I have a long list of games in my backlog that I want to go through, but never find the time to play them all. So in between recent games I’m interested in, I take the time to go through the older games and finish what I can. This year in particular there have been plenty of old games that I decided was high time to play, but these were the most notable. Continue reading
